About our COPE Team
Our COPE team is located at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen. Our expertise spans from fundamental research to the digital transformation of production, including process technology, production machinery, production quality and metrology, and technology management. With around 535 professionals, Fraunhofer IPT operates within a 9,000 square meter facility, featuring 5,000 square meters of laboratories and machine halls.
The institute’s development of scalable, automated production processes enhances throughput and product quality. For successful deployment in production environments, an integrated, intuitive control software is essential. To meet this need, a team within Fraunhofer IPT’s Production Quality and Metrology department, led by Prof. Schmitt, began developing the custom software COPE in 2014. Since early 2024, the new Bio-Adaptive Production Department, under the leadership of Dr. Bastian Nießing, has housed the COPE team. Researchers at Fraunhofer institutes benefit from a collaborative structure that facilitates knowledge exchange, making our combined expertise in production technology and its optimization unparalleled.
